I read a book "The Long Game" by Dorie Clark, which centres around how to be a long-term thinker in a short-term world. One of the chapters talked about networking too. What I learnt was when you see networking as a long-term, or even infinite, process, you focus more on relationship building, rather than thinking about how the other party can "benefit" you.
